February 26, 1923 - April 26, 2020
In the early hours of Sunday, April 26, our dear mother, Eileen, passed away knowing she was deeply loved by her daughters, Peggi (Lloyd), Ann (Alan) and Katherine (Phil). She will be lovingly remembered by her brother Bill Barr (Doris), grandchildren Carolyn (Adam), Mary Ann, Robert (Sheila), Elizabeth (Rod), Jonathan, Jessica (Brenden), Ted, Sandrine and Amelie, great-grandchildren Everitt, Eileen, Joshua, Maggie, Elijah, Annabelle, Zeke, Conan and another on the way! She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, sister, Doris Barr, brothers, Louis Barr and Arthur Barr.
Born on February 26, 1923 in Winnipeg to Edward and Florence Barr, Eileen and her four siblings grew up in the West End. She graduated from Daniel McIntyre then began work as a stenographer for Eaton's. Eileen was a 1946 charter member of P.E.O. Chapter F and for many years actively supported this philanthropic sisterhood remaining a member until her passing. She very much enjoyed volunteering at the Dugald Costume Museum. She held the monarchy in high regard and was proud of her British heritage, yet was inclusive and accepting of all races and beliefs.
Eileen met our father, Norman, at Broadway-First Baptist Church where they were faithful members, serving in many aspects of church life and securing life-long friendships. They married in 1948, celebrating 65 happy years together until Norman's passing in 2013.
Typical of the 1950s, Eileen was a homemaker. Her focus was raising a family of three girls and being a loving, supportive partner to Norman.
Eileen was kind, compassionate, empathetic, loyal, honest, a knitter, a sewer, a lover of history, a book reader, a faithful friend, a quick wit and a woman of strong opinions.
Her love for her daughters was only surpassed by her love for her grandchildren.
If angels walk the earth, they work at West Park Manor Personal Care Home. We are very grateful for the kind compassionate care that was given to our mother, and her family, from all staff members.
In lieu of flowers a donation to Broadway-First Baptist Church or an organization to aid the less fortunate during this time of COVID-19 would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
