Emma Paulina Enns (Magarrell)

April 18, 1921January 19, 2020

Surrounded by her loving family our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on January 19, 2020 at Concordia Place in Winnipeg.

Our Mother was born on April 18, 1921 in LaSalle, Manitoba the youngest of seven children born to Matilda (Norbo) and William John Magarrell,. She attended school in Kinlo and finished high school at the St. Agathe Convent. Mom met the love of her life Abe Enns who lived across the LaSalle River from the Magarrell farm. Following Dad’s departure overseas in 1941, Mom headed to Hamilton where she worked in an ammunition factory and then to Vancouver to work in a brewing factory. She married Abe in Domain Avonlea Church June 5, 1946 shortly after he returned from overseas. Mom and Dad farmed and raised their five children in the Domain area and subsequently moved to Mom’s dream home in Domain across from the Avonlea United Church until retiring to LaSalle in 1989.

Mom got her greatest joy from her family and serving her community. She was a chartered member of the Domain Women’s Institute since 1947. She was also a charter member and first president of Domain Legion Auxiliary formed in 1949 and was recently honoured with a pin in recognition of her 70-year anniversary. She held several positions in Avonlea United Church, was a member of LaSalle 50 plus club and the Red Hat Society to name just a few of her accomplishments.

Our Mother was filled with joy and love. She embraced life to the fullest and always greeted people with a big smile on her face. Mom is described by her family and friends and those who recently cared for her as compassionate, inspiring, filled with beautiful smiles, a blessing from God. Mom had a positive outlook on life and always found the silver lining.

Mom is lovingly remembered by her children Wendy and Irv Dalton, Coleen and Bob Whyte, Brenda and Dan Yau, Terrence and Marianne Enns, Rodney and Bozena (Konopinski) Enns; her grandchildren Geoffrey, John, Stephen, Jennifer, Cayman, Tyler and Matthew, step-grandchildren Brooke and Brad, four great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many of her loving nieces and nephews from the Magarrell and Enns families whom she adored. She was predeceased by our Dad Abe, parents and siblings Henry, Gladys, Mae, Lloyd, Dora and Gordon.

A very special thank you to the dedicated and loving caregivers at Concordia Place and her special companion Brenda Smith who provided her with joy and laughter in the last few months of her life.

“You can always tell where a beautiful soul has been by the tears and the smiles left behind.”

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:00 am at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home. A private family interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Adam and Dana Magarrell

January 27, 2020

On behalf of Adam and Dana Magarrell and family we would like to send our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to our cousins Wendy and Irv Dalton, Coleen and Bob Whyte, Brenda and Dan Yau, Terrence and Marianne Enns, Rodney and Bozena Enns and their families. I have many memories of being at Aunt Emma and Uncle Abe's house in Domain and later when they moved to La Salle. I remember picnics we had in their big yard in Domain and all the games that we played. Aunt Emma was always generous with her time and showed sincere interest in our lives. We will miss her great smile and kind heart.
