Born in the beautiful city of Prague, Czech Republic on June 7, 1933 she was the first daughter born to Marie and Vaclav Minovsky.
Eva followed her heart and with her daughter also named Eva immigrated to Canada in 1968. Settling in Winnipeg, she married Frank Kadlec and became a mom to his daughter Helena.
Having been a draftsperson in Prague, after a short-term job working at a chocolate factory while attending English classes she landed a job in her profession, and was the first female draftsperson at Pioneer Electric and later at Manitoba Hydro.
Eva seemed to always have a song in her heart. She loved music, books, the arts, and desserts. While working, she enjoyed boating and camping with the family on weekends in Whiteshell Provincial Park. After retiring, she loved to break the long Winnipeg winters by spending several weeks in Hawaii or RV’ing down to Florida, where she and Frank became regulars on the beach. She always talked about her visits to Victoria while visiting with Helena. After the Berlin Wall came down, she enjoyed many trips to her home country and travelling around Central Europe. Closer to home, and before her illness started to take her from us she was learning to speak French and attended weekly Tai Chi classes. She also liked to go and visit with friends in the Czech Club and help out at Folklorama.
Eva was predeceased by her husband Frank by 23 years. She is survived by her two daughters Eva (Jan) and Helena; her two grandchildren, Jan (Lucy) and Julie (Ian); and her 3 great-granddaughters Emilia, Erika and Daniella. Eva is also survived by her younger sister Helena Dusanek, her nephew Rene (Debbie) and niece Helena Dangerfield (Mark) and their children.
As her world shrank and she slowly forgot her loved ones, Eva did not forget the songs from her youth. She would happily burst into singing them for her nurses Nancy and Leeba and other residents in the nursing home until death silenced her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Highway.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated at the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
