It is with deep sadness to announce the passing of “Bud” Gerald Kenneth Edwards on August 1, 2024 at his home in Winnipeg. Bud was just a couple months shy of his 91st birthday.
Born October 2, 1933 in Fort William, Ontario, to Walter and Ivy Edwards, Bud was the 7th of 10 children. It was a good friend of the family who nicknamed “Buddy” which stuck with him his entire life.
For all who knew him, Bud was never at a loss for words and loved to share his many stories of golf, music, travels, family, childhood memories, jobs he worked growing up, his love for the outdoors, sports, fishing, jokes, his favourite recipes, cooking and his Star Lake home.
His interest in music started when his Grade 4 teacher taught him to play the piano. He was a natural and he could sing too. He later taught himself to play the guitar and the harmonica, and in 1957 formed his own band “The Bud Edwards Trio” playing clubs and at special occasions. One of Bud’s musical accomplishments was playing the harmonica on Bobby Curtola’s hit record - Hand and Hand with You (1960).
Bud was passionate about golf and in 1959 at the Port Arthur Country Club started his career in the game. In 1960 he turned Pro and joined the CPGA in 1961 working at Port Arthur Country Club then at Chapples Golf Course (1961/62). He moved to Winnipeg and became Head Pro at Wildwood Country Club from 1963-66. It was in 1967 he got his dream job as Head Pro at Falcon Beach Golf Course, where he enjoyed teaching and helping others with their game until his retirement in 1996.
As a son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, boss, teacher and friend, Bud lived a great and full life~his way~and will be missed by so many dear family members and friends.
