It is with deep sorrow and love that we mourn the passing of Gerald (Gerry) Fingler on April 23, 2026.
Gerry was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, the first of six siblings. The Fingler family moved from Steinbach to Winnipeg when Gerry was a young boy.
Gerry's wife Anita moved to Winnipeg from Detroit, Michigan in 1957, where they met while attending a church function. They married on August 13, 1960 and welcomed their son Kerry in December 1962, followed by Randy in January 1964.
Anita and Gerry raised their sons in North Kildonan, and spent many happy times attending family functions, sports events, RC flying events and travelling in Canada and throughout the United States.
Gerry had a love of airplanes from a young age, and was a member of the Model Aeronautics Association of Canada from 1949 to 2025. He founded Cellar Dweller Hobby Supply in 1972, which specialized in radio control airplane modelling along with model trains. Gerry and Anita's sons Kerry and Randy helped at "the shop" in their late teens. Kerry joined full time after completing college and expanded to include radio control cars. Kerry eventually took over and ran Cellar Dwellar for more than 20 years. Gerry continued to work part-time with Kerry, enjoying RC modelling and travelling. Gerry made the difficult decision to close Cellar Dweller in 2021 after nearly 50 years in business following Kerry's passing.
Gerry is survived by his son Randy, daughter-in-law Brenda (Kerry), granddaughter Lauren (Ken) and great-grandson Logan, along with extended family members. Gerry was predeceased by his son Kerry in 2021, and his wife Anita in 2024.
Gerry's wishes will be respected and there will not be a funeral service. Family members will be remembering him privately.
Flowers are gratefully declined.
Gerry is no longer here, but forever in our hearts.
