He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Laura of 55 years, his daughters Joanne, Michelle (Steve) and Amy, his granddaughters Genevieve (Todd) and Katie and a great granddaughter Emily. Sam also leaves behind four brothers and six sisters, his best friends Roni and Barry, and a large extended family. He is predeceased by his parents Camille and Solange, two sisters and his sweet granddaughter Julia.
For all who knew him, Sam was someone who opened the door of his home and his heart, in a way that was authentic and true, whether it was a small gathering or a large party, Sam helped every person in the room know they were special. He had a way of making smiles contagious.
He worked hard his entire life as a painter and decorator; there was no job too big or too small that he would not tackle. He had an artisan’s joy in his work, a storyteller’s ability to bring out the extraordinary from the ordinary. Anytime we drove the streets of Winnipeg he would regale us of story after story about the places he painted, projects he worked on, from church steeples to government buildings and houses all across our city.
In honour of who Sam was, someone that loved to be the host, a final send off tribute will occur on October 10, 2023 at the Notre Dame Community Centre, 271 de la Cathedrale from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Homage to Sam will begin at 3:00 pm. Those wishing to share a story about Sam are welcome.
