Chris was the eldest child born to Anton and Edith Jensen. Chris, along with his 3 siblings, Kenneth, Janet & Judi were born in North
Kildonan on Rosewell Place and raised in East Kildonan on Ottawa & Jamison. Chris’s childhood was spent trying to find any innocent trouble he could by hanging out at the community clubs of East End Barons, Chalmers, Melrose, Morse Place, and Bronx Park. If you were looking for Chris before his 18th birthday, you’d have a good chance of finding him at Matt's Restaurant or the Bowman Sal’s; eating burgers, smoking, and drinking beers, underage.
Chris co-founded the EK Stones fastball team with many of his lifelong friends, becoming
Winnipeg city champions in 1985. Chris also began to home in on his curling skills, laying the foundation for his knack/art and love for making a sheet of ice in his golden years. Curling truly was a Jensen and Simpson family affair and Chris fondly recalled the joy of getting to play with his grandparents. From hacking legs in lacrosse, throwing rocks on the ice, knocking baseballs out of the park to whacking golf balls at the Tee, Chris was the quintessential sportsman.
The Villa and the Curtis hotels were his regular hangouts in his 20’s until Chris fell in love with and became a member of the Prince Edward Legion in 1981. He served on the executive of the branch for several years as Entertainment Chairman and Vice President.
Chris’s work history consisted of many odd jobs in the early years before getting hired on with Glaxo at the ripe age of 22. Chris started his career at Glaxo in 1977 as a picker-packer in the warehouse, climbing the ladder to become Western Canada's Distribution Manager until his retirement in 2002.
Chris and Jackie married in 1994, which came along as an instant family of 5 including stepchildren Mike, Shannon, and Stephanie. Chris moved the family to Alberta and that's where they welcomed the last addition to the family, Anton/Tony.
In 2003, Chris moved back home to be with his pops. He started a small grass-cutting business until he was hired on at Grand Pines in 2006. He became the ice maker for Grand Marais and Victoria Curling clubs. He enjoyed his trips to Slovakia & Czechia where he golfed and curled. Then he found his new destination of choice in Jamaica.
Chris made many, many friends, too many to mention but you know who you are.
Shout out to The E.K. Stones guys, all his many curling buddies, Thursday's men's league, and all the 'safety meeting' guys.
Celebration of life to be held at Prince Edward Legion.
