Mr. Glen Alexander McBride

It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that Glen has played the last quarter of his game. Glen passed away on September 8, 2016 at the age of 86. For the past three years he had a courageous encounter with multiple myeloma. Glen was predeceased by his true love Helen, his wife of 62 years, in July 2014. Glen's memory will live on and is cherished by his brother Barry (Susan) in addition to his immediate family: his loving daughters Brucie (Gord), Beth (Alfred), Barb (Ward), and Angela (Jeff); and by his grandchildren, Geri (Ryan), James (Victoria) and Bailey. He was loved and will be missed by extended McBride and Lulewick families, and by many, many dear friends. Glen lived and loved well in the dash between his years, the dash that represents all the time he spent alive on this earth. Highlights of his dash include growing up in the north end with brothers Barry and Al, signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1951, building a house, life and family with Helen, working in sales as a company man and then self-employment right up until his retirement at age 82. Glen was many things to many people: a devoted husband, a terrific father, supportive brother, a true people person, and generous spirit. His passing leaves a hole in many lives. Throughout his treatments, Glen remained incredibly positive, gentle, dignified, and always interested in the lives of those who were assisting him. He was grateful for all the love surrounding him right through to the end. Glen's family extends its heartfelt thanks to all the angels for their visits, cards, phone calls, meals, and kind words. The family would also like to extend thank yous to the team at CancerCare Manitoba, for the attentiveness and compassion in caring for Glen, and for consistently treating him with respect. We could not have looked after Dad alone so we include the support from Home Care in our thanks. Deepest thanks to the staff at Victoria General Hospital from the emergency room team right up to the 4th floor wards. The community palliative care team and the palliative care staff at St. Boniface Hospital that guided us through the past few weeks also deserve our thanks. A special thank you to Dr. Patricia Harris for her care of Glen over the years. At Glen's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Dad, you will be forever in our hearts and loved always...we will sure miss you but we promise to continue to make you and mom proud. We have lovely images of you and mom reconnecting wherever the winds take you and dancing the hours away together. You and mom are the strongest people that we have ever known. And so, our Dad, we send you off with the Irish blessing: May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; And the rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
