Gloria Campos peacefully passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 81.
Gloria was born in Vita, Manitoba on January 17, 1943. Gloria grew up in The Pas and in Winnipeg in the River Heights area.
Gloria fell in love with British Columbia, where she lived in the late 60’s, before returning to Winnipeg.
She worked for MPIC as an Executive Secretary to the First President and then became the first female adjuster in Canada in the 70’s. Her success led to openings for other women in what was an exclusively male occupation. Later, Gloria opened her own collection agency and ran that for almost 30 years.
Gloria led her life with an open-door policy. Gloria lived to accept everyone and made sure that they knew they could count on her at any time. This meant that her home was always open to people as well as animals. Family and friends always looked forward to her Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, where most times, you would meet a few single people who didn’t have a family to spend the day with. Mom made sure to make them feel like they were family. Her creamed peas were always a favorite as well as her curries and shortbread cookies.
Mom loved to travel and would always tell us stories of her adventures to Puerto Vallarta, British Columbia and Belize. She also enjoyed going on the small casino trips across the border with friends.
Mom married Amador Campos on June 23, 1984 in Winnipeg, when she became a bonus mom to Alex and Angelica and had Yolanda in May 1981 and Elena in December 1982. Mom lived for her grandchildren. She was always so proud of them and would spend a lot of time telling people stories about them.
Gloria is predeceased by her parents John and Elsie Clark and her big sister Ruth Hyrich.
She is survived by her husband Amador Campos, her children Yolanda (Ryan) Davidowich, Elena Campos, her bonus children Alex (Terie) and Angelica Rodrigues. Her grandchildren Alyssa, Caitlin and Ryleigh Davidowich, Rivka, Rachel, Ruth and Benjamin Henriquez De La Fuente, Chantelle, Chanise, Shauna, Joey, Shayla and Jesse Goulet, and Carlos and Eliana Rodrigues. She also had six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, John Lindsay (Alicia) Clark, Ron (Marsha) Clark and Holly Clark, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and always looked forward to their visits and time together.
Viewing and visitation for Gloria will be held Monday, March 11, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. A Celebration of Gloria's Life will occur Saturday, March 30, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery.
