It is with deep sadness that the family and friends of Grace Hartley announce her passing at St. Boniface Hospital on Sunday, April 6, 2014.
Grace was born in Steinbach and she is the daughter of Margaret and Aaron Kliewer. She is predeceased by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Cliff Fast.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Michael, her son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Lisa, her two grandchildren, Krista and Lauren, and her nephew and his wife and daughter, Greg, Diane and Lynne Fast.
Grace, a graduate of the University of Winnipeg, began her career at the Manitoba Telephone System where she met Michael. She imparted her love of music through the piano teaching of many students, including her son. After her marriage, Grace lived in many parts of Canada, including Thompson, Mississauga, and Edmonton. For the last 30 years she enjoyed life in her home and sunny backyard in Fort Garry. She is also the author of over 250 poems, and she published prize-winning poetry in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Later, she wrote short stories for a wide range of magazines. Grace, married in Winnipeg in 1963, celebrated her 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends last year.
Family and friends would like to extend a special thanks to the compassionate staff of St Boniface ICU as well as the many people who sent their condolences.
Funeral Service will be held at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Road on Thursday, April 10 at 2 p.m. Reverend Dr. Peter Denton is to lead the service. Following service and reception, she will be interred at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens.
