Greta was born in Winnipeg on December 23, 1933. She spent her early childhood in Beresford Lake and moved to Winnipeg with her brother Vicktor to live with the Svendsen family following the death of their mother. Greta attended the St. Boniface School of Nursing where she made lifelong friends and graduated in 1955. Greta worked for the majority of her career at the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Upon retirement was Executive Director. She loved the Arts, especially the Opera and the Ballet.
Later in life, Greta fell in love and married Erick Helgason in 1981. Greta and Erick spent 33 happy years together and especially loved their time at their cottage in Aubigney.
Greta is survived by her step-children Daniel (Brenda), Marilyn, and James (Kate); grandchildren Ashley (Mike), Sabrina, Elan, Jordon and Quinn; and nieces and nephews Paul (Janice), Debra (John), John (Sharon) and Karen (Ben).
Greta was predeceased by her husband Erick; brother Vicktor; and her parents Lars and Ragna Molund.
A Celebration of Greta’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
In Lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation to honour Greta’s alma mater.
