Mom’s presence will be greatly missed by daughters Stacey (Jim) and Jodi, granddaughters Samantha and Lauren, sisters in law Mona DeVisser and Judy (Ray) Starr, along with many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by our dad Bob, her parents Doris and Marinus, mother and father in law Gladys and Neil, brothers Allan and Kenny (Joyce), sister Sheila (Rae), auntie Edna and uncle Ted.
Our mom grew up in the town of Bird’s Hill, and upon graduation decided to head to the big city of Toronto with her cousin Cheryl, for some adventure. She was there for a few years before moving back home to be closer to family. Upon her return, she was introduced to our dad by her cousin Donna, and were happily married. Mom worked at Eaton’s and Sears later on in life. Thanks to her keen eye, many of us are now well stocked in the houseware and linen department with things we didn’t even know we needed. She was involved with Brownies, and on one occasion managed to save the day. There was a camping trip planned for the weekend, and the weather was less than cooperative. She decided to host the camping trip in our living room instead of canceling the troop’s plans.
She was a lover of all things outdoors. Spending many hours in the garden, and taking the family dog Brio for multiple daily walks. Home renovations with her cousin Pat kept her busy, and us on our toes. Our mom loved to travel. Having been able to see Hawaii, Turkey, a few stops in the Caribbean, and a surprise whitewater rafting trip in Colorado. The rafting trip was a testament to her courage, as she wasn’t much of a swimmer.
She could cook and bake wonderful meals. Always having cookies or a cake at the ready. Mom loved the simple things in life. A strong cup of coffee, whipped cream, any and all things dessert related, friends and family, listening to music and having a cold beer or nice glass of wine.
A private celebration of life will be held in mom’s honour. She was never one to miss a good party.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the RHC AB1 staff. You are a very special group of people and we sincerely appreciate the care, and attention given to our mom in her time spent with you. To our cousin Kara, we are sure you will miss being told to shut up with mom’s cheeky smirk, or be subjected to the eye roll. We know we will. Thanks to Carly, Chris, and Concessa on the CD1 unit, your care and compassion was appreciated and did not go unnoticed.
Donations can be made in mom’s memory to the Riverview Health Centre ACE 1st floor, or Alzheimer’s Society Manitoba.
