Left to cherish her memory are her son Kenneth Smith; daughter-in-law Teresa Smith; and grand-daughter Kadie Smith (Mathew); as well as her sister Dorothy Hewett; her Aunt, Anne Mankewicz; and special friend Arnold Clearwater. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and will be lovingly remembered by many, many dear friends.
Helen was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, Jim Millar; and by George Smith; her parents Lenard and Molly Rhodes; brother Ron Rhodes; and brother-in-law Ron Hewett.
Mom started working for Eaton’s in 1953 and in 1976 she moved on to the Royal Bank of Canada where she worked as a Data Clerk until her retirement in 1997. She and Jim loved entertaining and always enjoyed the company of their family and many friends. Although she suffered a long battle with dementia she still entertained the residents and staff of her nursing home with numerous songs, her smile and ready wit.
This was Helen in a nutshell. Always a smile on her face and a song in her heart.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. Interment to be held at a later date. Immediately following the service, a celebration of Helen’s life will be held in the Reception Centre.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Whittaker for her kind and compassionate care of Mom through-out the years and especially those years spent in the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home. We would also like to thank the nurses and health care workers at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home for their excellent care of Mom.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba.
A beautiful life
that came to an end,
she died as she lived,
everyone’s friend.
In our hearts, a memory
will always be kept,
of one we loved,
and will never forget
