Herta Schroeder Tibelius

(nee Schroeder)

Peacefully, on April 23, 2011 at the Misericordia Health Centre, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 93 years.

Herta was born on December 17, 1917 in Woronesch, Russia and spent her early years in a German settlement in Ukraine. After World War II she settled in West Germany and married Leonard Tibelius in 1949. They and their three children immigrated to Winnipeg in 1952. Herta’s work as a seamstress helped to support the family and allowed them to live a comfortable life.

Herta was predeceased by her husband Leonard and is survived by her sister Maria Sperling, brother Emil Schroeder, her sons Waldemar (Verna), Klaus and Karl (Christine), and daughter Hilda (Bob), seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Herta’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Cornish 5 (Cedar Grove) at Misericordia Health Centre who provided compassionate care to our mother and support to our family at the time of her passing.

Funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 370 McKenzie St., Winnipeg, on Thursday, April 28, at 11:00 a.m., with viewing beginning at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
