Horst Lorenz Gerner

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Horst Gerner on March 21, 2011 at the age of 70 years after a long and well lived life.

He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Hans. Left to celebrate his life; his wife of 24 years, Sheila; daughters Monica (Robert) Ganzhorn; Lisa (Wayne) Ritchot; sister Sonja of Germany and his four grandchildren, Robert, Danielle, Abby and Mathew and numerous relatives in Germany.

Horst came to Canada in 1959 where he first worked as a house painter in Winnipeg, later moving to Thompson, Manitoba where he was hired on by Inco. He retired in 1992 after thirty plus wonderful years with them.

His family and friends will remember him most for his kind heart, his generosity and wonderful sense of humour.

Viewing will take place on Friday, March 25, 2011 from 5:00 – 8:00pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.

As per Horst’s wishes cremation will take place and a private family interment will take place at a later date.

The family extends a special thanks to Victoria General Hospital physicians, Dr. Munsamy, Dr. Cavers, and the loving compassionate nurses of 5 South.
