Born in Toronto in 1945, Bruce was the oldest of 6 boys born to Frank Silversides and Christie Kinread. He lived in Toronto, Halifax, Ottawa, Flin Flon, and Winnipeg. Ultimately, he settled in Winnipeg, where he lived for more than 50 years. It was in Winnipeg where he met the love of his life, Sheila Silversides and together they raised two children, Candice and Kit.
For Bruce, family always came first. He loved his grandchildren and cherished attending their school functions and sporting events. He worked as a teacher for 35 years, initially at Earl Grey School and then at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. In addition to a classroom teacher, he was a coach and a mentor to many of his students.
After his retirement, he spent his time golfing, cooking delicious meals, socializing with his longtime friends and traveling with Sheila. He was known for his kindness and his hospitality. He was a truly wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is predeceased by his father Frank Silversides; mother Christie Silversides; and brother Peter Silversides. He is survived by his wife Sheila; his children and their spouses Candice Silversides (John), Kit Silversides (Tannis); his brothers and their families Kit (Gail), Lee (Sue, Christie), Dirk (Bonnie), and Brock (Laurel); and his grandchildren Nigel (mother Paula), Ella, Damon, Violet and Nicholas. His family and friends will all miss him terribly.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses that cared for Bruce at Victoria Hospital, Riverview Health Centre, Princess Margaret Hospital, and Toronto General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Riverview Health Centre.
