It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ioannis (John) Verogos on December 15, 2025, at the age of 78.
John was predeceased by his beloved parents, Fotios and Evangelia, and ten of his siblings. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 30 years Yvonne, his sons John Jr. (Holly) and Christopher, stepdaughters Christina and Konstantina (George), grandchildren Presley and Rosa, and his sisters Eleousa and Rita.
Born in 1947 in Farsala, Greece, John came to Canada at the age of 25 with determination and hope, building a life rooted in hard work, love, and deep devotion to family. In 1978, he opened AlfaCeramics, a business he ran with pride and care, reflecting his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for those he loved.
The youngest of thirteen children, John carried his family close to his heart throughout his life. Those who knew John understood how he cherished his sons John Jr. and Chris beyond measure. He took immense pride in watching them grow and was never happier than when spending time with them.
John was a man of many gifts. He had a true passion and talent for music. He could play multiple instruments, his favourite being the bouzouki. He thrived on staying active and found true joy in the kitchen, creating meals that brought everyone together. His home was always open and he loved to host. Friends and family gathered often, sharing laughter, stories, and food. More often than not, the evening would erupt into music and singing, a testament to the happiness he inspired in others.
John leaves behind a legacy of quiet warmth and profound love for others. He had a beautiful way with words and ideas; any conversation with him became something special, heartfelt, and illuminated by the extraordinary wisdom that came straight from his kind and generous soul.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Demetrios Orthodox Church.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at St. Demetrios Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave, Winnipeg, MB.
