Jackie was born on November 6, 1932 in Winnipeg, MB the only child of Jack and Gaye Owens. Growing up on Morley Avenue, she attended Kelvin High School, where her yearbook advised her to hone her cooking skills if she was going to land a "certain baker.” It must have worked because she and the baker, Clifford Doner, were married in 1952 and shared 43 wonderful years together before his passing in 1995. Jackie worked for a number of years at the Windsor Park Public Library where she was able to help many by sharing her love of reading. After retirement, Jackie pursued her love of travel, with trips as far and wide as Europe, Japan, the Caribbean and North America. Of all the places she had been, Jackie most enjoyed time spent at Caddy Lake. Together with her beloved Cliff and friends Wray and Audrey, they built and cherished a cottage together, starting in 1952. Endless good times were had with family, children and lifelong friends Jack and Nell, who had built just across the lake. While not anyone's definition of an athlete, Jackie gave her all at many sports: waterskiing, cross-country skiing, curling, golf, ice skating, and swimming to name a few. Jackie was also not much of a gambler, but took full advantage of casino offers to have fun adventures with the many friends she made living at Agape Villa.
A devoted mother and grandmother; Jackie is survived by her daughter Carol and grandsons Corey and Phillip; daughter Nancy and granddaughter Kristel; and son Trevor.
Mom gave tirelessly of herself and showed her love and concern through her endless support and of course, cookies. She touched many lives with her kindness. Jackie will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A celebration of Jackie's life will take place on Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 pm at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
The family would also like to thank the staff at River Park Gardens here in Winnipeg who provided Mom with the best possible care and support during her battle with Vascular Dementia.
Flowers are gratefully declined and instead a donation may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or alzheimer.mb.ca
