OBITUARY
Janice Elizabeth MORISSETTE
October 8, 1952 – January 8, 2021
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Janice Elizabeth Morissette (Turner) on January 8th, 2021 at St. Boniface General Hospital. Janice fought a brief but courageous battle with cancer and died with her family at her side.
Janice was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth (Betty) Turner. She is survived by her husband and best friend of 43 years, Ron; daughter Danielle (Frank), granddaughter Robyn; son Marc (Aura), grandson Oscar; her father Harold (Ray) Turner; life-long friend Darlene Barnes, and numerous family and friends.
Janice was born October 8, 1952 in London, Ontario. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1953. Janice and her parents spent 4 years in Kenya during the 60s, with Janice returning to Winnipeg to complete her high school education. Her time in Kenya helped fuel her passion for travel, and upon graduation, Janice visited several European destinations, both solo and in tandem with Darlene. It was also during this time that Janice worked at a kibbutz in Israel followed by a return trek to Kenya.
Eventually, it was time to focus on establishing a career, which led Janice to the field of Nursing, and ultimately a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1976 from the U of M. Her first position was at Percy Moore Hospital (Hodgson, MB), after which Janice accepted a position with the Victorian Order of Nurses. In 1982, she was hired by St. Boniface Hospital, where she dedicated the rest of her nursing career up to fall 2020. Besides her two adoring grandchildren, Janice’s passion was travelling. True to form, Janice would spend endless hours planning trips for herself and Ron, as well as friends and family. Janice and Ron enjoyed many trips over the years, with destinations ranging from Kenya to Asia, Europe, Mexico, the Caribbean, Colombia, and Hawaii. We must not forget the annual family road trips to various Canadian and US destinations. In addition to travel, Janice also loved entertaining, cross-stitching, reading, and her most recent passion, volunteering every Saturday morning with her fellow Goldwings at the Winnipeg Int’l Airport. Janice was an active member at All Saints Anglican Church for over 45 years. Janice touched so many lives in so many ways. She always put others’ needs before hers. She will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to https://dreamstakeflight.ca (Winnipeg Chapter) or www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org.
Mom/Grandma you will forever be in our hearts.

Dear Ron,
It was with shock and sadness that Tracy and I received this news; our hearts go out to you, your daughter and son, and to your father-in-law Ray.
From everything I observed, your marriage and the raising of your family were a model of what it means to love and to become better people as you grew together. I am thankful that you were able to be with Janice in the hospital during this terrible time. I can see that Janice's adventurous spirit lives on in your children and I have no doubt that more of her wonderful qualities are reflected in you, your children and your grandchildren.
We are privileged to honour her memory by supporting the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. We pray that you are sustained during this time of loss; please know that you and your family are in our thoughts.

Dear Ron and family,
I had the privilege of being one of Janice's teachers at St. Ben's and we became life long friends with only 5 years between our ages. I am still in disbelief that such a wonderful vibrant woman is no longer with us.

I had the honor of knowing Janice as we both worked at SBH. Not only was Janice an awesome nurse she was union aware and active and that is how I got to know her best. Janice was kind, wise and professional as well as a lot of fun!
We also had a unique connection as her husband Ron, taught my daughters on occasion as a French immersion substitute, small world.
Ron I am so sorry for your families loss, you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

I had the pleasure of enjoying Janice’s company during numerous meal breaks spanning several years at St. B.
Janice was always willing to share her nursing expertise with me along with a good laugh.
I always admired Janice for her ability to keep strong family connections. She would speak fondly of her family road trips, sunday dinners and the annual St. Vital Park picnic. Janice was a unique woman whom will be missed by many. Thinking of you all during this difficult time. My sincere condolences,

My condolences and prayers to Janice's family. I attended St. Ben's with Janice and we were friends. She was a wonderful person. I had several sleep over at her home and we maintained our connection over the years. The last time I saw her was at The Children's Hospital Book fair a few years ago. I have been going quite regularly to the Monastery over the years/ decades and I would see her Father often. She left us far to soon but God's plan is one we can't question. She will always be in my memory and heart. I hope that someone will contact her friends when there is a memorial service as I may not notice it in the paper.
Rest in Peace dear friend.

Those of us that have had the privilege of being a part of Janice’s life are feeling her loss deeply. She was a unique individual. So full of energy and always the first to offer help , no matter what was required.
Her love of entertaining always baffled me. The more, the merrier seemed to be her motto. Of course my family and I were willing partakers of these gatherings.
I met Janice at Percy E Moore hospital. Our friendship developed quickly. I was welcomed as a friend and as a sister-in-law.
Life will not be the same . We have many wonderful memories to fall back on. Love Marg and Maurice
