It is with much love & great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Grandmother & Great Grandmother Jewel Baldwin. Mom was a trooper until the end & passed peacefully with daughters Wendy & Deb holding her hands. We are thankful & so lucky to have had this time with both Mom & Dad.
Mom was born to parents Julian & Ethel Haugen in Wainwright, AB., the oldest of 5 children. She grew up on the farm & also Neilburg, Sk. Mom taught at ’Normal’ school just out of high school & then went into nursing training at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. & graduated as a registered nurse in 1951. She retired as Director of Care at Extendicare in Regina after 35 years of nursing. Once a nurse, always a nurse.
Mom met our Dad, Neal at the TD Bank where he was stationed in Neilburg. Story has it that he thought her paycheque was pretty fine & asked her out. They married in 1953 & started their amazing journey from there. Many moves with ’the’ Bank, took them to many new places in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Manitoba & then back to Saskatchewan. They both retired in Regina. That started new adventures travelling to so many places. So many fabulous trips with family & friends. Life long friends so cherished.
They moved from Regina to Atton's Lake, SK & made more memories there. From there, they moved on to Saskatoon when our Dad's health was declining. Mom then came to Winnipeg in 2009 to be closer to her daughters & enjoyed condo life. And we enjoyed her.
Mom's final home was Pembina Place Mennonite Personal Care Home, where she was well looked after by the amazing people there. Huge thank you to the staff for taking such good care & showing so much compassion. Mom even enjoyed the Bomber fans razzing her for being such a Rider Fan.
Jewel is survived by daughters Wendy & Deb, sister Carol, sisters-in-law Phyllis, Mary & Gwen & including our blended & extended families, 7 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren & many nieces & nephews. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no formal service. Mom & Dad will rest together again in Woodrow, SK.
