Peacefully, on January 1, 2011, Joan Geddes passed away at the age of 84 at the Victoria Hospital. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Rob Morrow) and Bev (Nick DiChario); her grandchildren Liam, Matthew, Katie, Colin, and Luke; and her sisters Doreen Hurst and Patricia Hill and their families.
Joan Sanders was born in Winnipeg on July 11, 1926, and grew up in the North End. She married Walter Geddes in 1948 and moved to Fort Garry to start her family. Her work as a librarian for the Winnipeg Public Library System gave her many years of enjoyment. She loved books, music, art, and traveling with her family. Her grandchildren were the most treasured part of her life and nothing made her happier than to be with them.
From her childhood years, she spent her summers at Victoria Beach where she loved the sun, riding her bicycle, visiting friends, reading on the beach, and picking blueberries and saskatoons. In her later years she could always be found sitting in her white wicker chair on the porch.
A memorial service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., on Friday, February 11, 2011, 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Cancer Care Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
"You did it your way, Mum.
Love you forever."
