It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, in the early morning hours of Friday, March 15. Sharon, Debbie and Tracey were standing by his side when he left us to join his wife, Florence and other loved ones we have lost.
Dad was born in West Bend, Saskatchewan on August 3, 1930, and lived a long, happy, and healthy life. As the oldest of eight kids he grew up supporting his family in every way and continued to do so with his own children, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dad loved all living things - he always fed the birds and bunnies in his yard and he loved to tend to his gardens and grass. He was always available to lend a hand to anyone in need, whether that be fixing your car, your furnace or your toaster! He was powerful in strength and an exceptional mechanic. Dad enjoyed watching whatever sport was on TV, but especially the Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets and curling. In recent years, he took weekly trips to the casino with his oldest daughter, Sharon, where he often had good luck. He loved playing the lottery using numbers based on family birthdays. Dad was never boring, he cracked jokes and laughed along with you. He appreciated every moment spent with his family and friends, remaining present and always chatty. Dad loved to reminisce about the years he spent growing up in Saskatchewan on the farm, his memory was so sharp he could still recall the price of milk, his salary per hour and the cost of his first house. Dad always had to be last one to say "I love you", reminding us how important it is to tell your loved ones whenever you have the opportunity. Dad worked hard and gave back, he donated to many charities. He will be remembered by the lives he touched as an incredibly kind man, with a good heart and a gentle demeanor. We are so lucky he was our dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother and dear friend, and our lives are better because of him. We have all won the lottery having you in our lives.
The family would like to thank the amazing health care professionals at the Grace Hospital ICU.
The funeral will take place on Friday, March 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1001 Grant Avenue. Luncheon to follow in the church hall. Family interment to follow later.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Grace Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
