October 6, 1929 - June 11, 2013
Sitting with Jack in his final days, our family gathered to share memories of his 83 years. Our thoughts included people from his past: his parents Millie and Charles; and people from his present: his loving wife Donna, his beautiful daughter Laura, handsome son Craig (wife Linda), his adored grandchildren Tyler and Iola and his brother Ross (wife Marlene).
We talked of his childhood in St. James, youthful escapades in Churchill and Western Canada and settling down in Fort Garry; his 37 dedicated years at Merchants Consolidated, working his way up from the warehouse, through the advertising department, to the office of Vice President of Operations; his golf, first at Wildewood and then 25 years at Niakwa, achieving a 9 handicap, and a hole-in-one on the eighth hole at Falcon Beach; of his summers at Falcon Lake, where he built by hand a cottage in 1959 and guest cabin in 1976 on the south shore, later moving to the north shore in 1988; his winters in Florida and Victoria, driving there with Donna and their dog Shady many times.
He had a wonderful life!
Tragically most of his memories were stolen from him in his later years by Alzheimer's, but our memories of him will go on and he will be dearly missed. We love you Sweetheart, Dad and Grandpa XOX.
A memorial reception will take place from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 15 at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
Thank you to Dr. Sharkey, a good friend and an excellent doctor, and to the staff at Victoria General Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, if so desired, please donate to a charity of your choice.
