

Joe passed away suddenly at the Ottawa Heart Institute. He is survived by his wife June; his son Jamie; and grandsons, Matthew and David, of Ottawa; and his daughter Jilleen (Bob Ryan), of Winnipeg. Joe was predeceased by his father, David James and his mother, Frances Mary Sidaway (nee Zuchkan).
Joe was born and raised in Winnipeg, attending St. Mary's Parish School, Hugh John Macdonald, Daniel McIntyre and Miles Macdonell. He joined COTC at the University of Manitoba and was appointed to the rank of Second Lieutenant. Joe earned a BA from Moorhead State College and a BSW from the University of Calgary. Joe entered the service of the Federal Government and retired after 30 years in 2001. Joe was a Past-President of the Prince Edward Branch #81 of the Royal Canadian Legion and was currently Chairman of the Branch and Zone 64 Commander. Joe was in his eighth year as a Director of the National Association of Federal Retirees and had served on the Executive of the Professional Institute of Public Service. Joe was able to enjoy curling and golf as a member of the Rossmere 60 Plus, St. Paul Duffers, MSGA and Prince Edward Branch leagues.
He was our rock and now we must carry on without him. He will always be in our hearts and thoughts.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Klassen Funeral Home located at 1897 Henderson Hwy. in Winnipeg and burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. If you desire, please donate to an animal rescue of your choice in Joe's memory.
