Joyce Lewco

Joyce passed peacefully in her sleep, on July 28, 2025 at the age 86. She will be reunited in the next life with her son Billy Kevin Roy Lewco, siblings Arlene, Robert, Helen, Norma, Dorothy, twin sister Joan, George along with her parents Calvin and Ruth Haughton.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Alisa Bromley (Doug Carr and stepchildren Champlevey and Trojen), her grandchildren, Victoria Moss (Jon Moss), Sarah Lewco (Brendan Lloyd), and Henry Lewco (Ashley Goertzen), and her great-granddaughters, Lily and Zoey Moss. She will be lovingly remembered by her dear friends, Alica Bromley, Colin Chandler, and Lucy Giancola, and her numerous nieces and nephews with special mention to Polly and Craig who would often call Joyce.

Joyce was born on March 9, 1939, in Easton, Michigan. As a child her family moved to the Chicago suburbs settling in Berwyn, Illinois. Joyce graduated from Morton High School and worked in a candy factory, where she met the aunt of William “Bill” Lewco who set them up on a blind date on January 13th, 1959. They were married June 13, 1959, and moved to Omaha, Nebraska. Upon the impending arrival of their first born, they returned to Berwyn, Illinois and later lived in Lyons, Illinois. In 1972, they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Bill found work with CN and the family settled in Transcona. Joyce remained a stay-at-home mom, creating a home for numerous foster children. In the early 1980s she returned to school at Murdock MacKay Collegiate in the Fashion Design Program. She graduated in 1984 the same year as her daughter, Alisa. She was a talented and creative individual who enjoyed her gardens and multiple trips to the US to visit family and friends. She was a dedicated artist having made dresses and quilts with special notice to her creativity in handmade stuffed toys for her children and grandchildren.

Joyce instilled her belief and faith in God in her children, attending Blessed Sacrament Parish and St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She volunteered at the Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba, Winnipeg Parks and Rec and Concordia Hospital.

Special thanks to her beloved friends at Columbus Villa and the staff of Charleswood Care Centre for their care and understanding provided throughout her stay.

There will be graveside burial services at a later date.
