June 25, 1929 – October 12, 2010
The world is not as bright today for we have lost a bright ray of sunshine. On Tuesday evening, Nora Anderson (Greening) of Winnipeg, MB, passed peacefully in the presence of her two children, Harold Anderson of Chemainus, BC, and Janice O’Leary (Joe) of Winnipeg, MB. Born in Langruth, MB, Nora grew up on the family farm until moving to Winnipeg where she met and married Murray Anderson in 1950. She is predeceased by her parents Adolph and Blondena, siblings Julia, Adam, Ben, Esther, Lil, Mary, Ella, Eddie, Ralph, Rubin, and Evelyn. She will also be sadly missed by siblings Dan Greening of Winnipeg, and Margaret Fricker (Steve) also of Winnipeg; Grandchildren Mary Elizabeth and Ruth Esther Anderson of Ladysmith, BC and the many nephews and nieces that loved and were loved by her. She was a Mother to many. Though she had only two children of her own, those who called her “Mom” across the country cannot be numbered, however, special condolences go to Illeane, Danielle, Marina, and Matthew Anderson of Kelowna, BC and Anita Louise Holtman of Starbuck, MB, whom she cared for, for many years, and loved to the end. We finally wish to express our love for Karen Biffen, (Rob Peacock), of Vancouver BC., and Cheryl McLeod (Gord) of Winnipeg MB. You are family, and we know you share our grief. Thank you for your love and care for Mom.
Nora began her working career sewing in a factory, after which she waitressed at the Town & Country in downtown Winnipeg. She was then inspired to take up hairdressing which led to her eventually owning her own salon.
Mom loved sports and was a True Blue Bomber Fan right to the bitter end. She attended many Grey Cup games over the years. In the early days, she got there by train and in the later years, it was by plane. Nora had fun in life. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her and her memory will carry on. She was a world traveler. Mom often reminisced about the cruise she enjoyed so much. In 1987, she pulled up roots eventually settling in BC, where she stayed until early 2007.
The family would like to express their thanks to the doctors, nurses, and unit assistants at the Health Science Centre.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Thomson Funeral Home with reception to follow.
