OBITUARY

Leokadia "Kathe" PALLAS

May 3, 1929May 30, 2020

Kathe was born May 3, 1929 in Zelonia Poland. She was the third of four children born to Fredrich and Lydia Lueck. Kathe grew up during WW II. The family endured considerable hardship during this time and eventually they fled Poland for Germany. In the fall of 1946 the Lueck family immigrated to Canada, arriving on Oct. 31, in Halifax. They made their way to Winnipeg, where her father's brother lived, and settled into life in Canada.

In 1952 Kathe met a handsome German immigrant with no shortage of confidence and charisma, by the name of Paul Pallas. Paul had served in the German Navy during WW II, and made his way to Canada to play semi professional soccer while working as a painter at the time. They were married on June 29, 1953, and together they started Pallas Painting and Decorating. Over the next 50 years they built it into a very successful business, that was known throughout Manitoba. Paul always had impressive cars which Kathe enjoyed riding in and driving. Early in their life together, travel played an important part for the Pallas'. Mexico was the destination of choice. Acapulco was their first love, followed by Cuernavaca and in their later years, Puerto Vallarta became their favorite destination of all.

In December of 1955, Paul and Kathe were blessed with a baby girl, Karin. She would be their only child, and growing up Karin became an integral part of their lives. Karin has lived with her mother and father her entire life. Much time was spent together at the beach house on Lake Manitoba, entertaining family and friends. Karin accompanied her parents on trips to Mexico, Europe and on many cruises. One of Kathe's passions was golf and they were proud members at Elmhurst Golf and Country Club for many years.

Kathe's life long partner, Paul passed away on August 5, 2009. Kathe and Karin continued to live in their custom built home on the edge of West Kildonan Park. In Kathe's later years, they moved to River Ridge Retirement Home. Kathe was predeceased by her parents Fredrich and Lydia Lueck, her husband Paul, brothers Johan Lueck and Eddie Lueck, sister Hilde Elke and brother in law, Albert Elke. She is survived by her daughter Karin and her sister in law, Vera Lueck.
