It is with profound sadness that the family of Lieng Thi Lam announces her death on February 24, 2026, at the age of 78, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones.
Lieng will be lovingly remembered by her children Yenny Trinh and Linda Trinh (Ryan Hardy), grandchildren Lexi and Evan, sisters, brothers, their spouses, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, their spouses, nieces, nephews and her extended family and friends in Winnipeg, Toronto, Vancouver, California, China, and Vietnam. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Van Tung Trinh, her mother, father, brothers, and sisters.
She was born and grew up in Trảng Bàng, Vietnam. She and Tung were married in 1973, and she worked as a teacher. Their family immigrated to Canada in 1985, dreaming of new opportunities. Sadly in 1989, she was widowed.
Lieng did everything she could to provide for her two daughters, which included learning English, working as a sewing machine operator, graduating from the Professional Baking and Pastry Certificate program at RRC Polytech, working in a bakery, opening a restaurant, and making desserts at home to sell to grocery stores. She welcomed her nephew Bao and niece Ky into her home, widening her circle of those under her care. She modelled strength, bravery, and sacrifice to everyone around her.
Lieng loved to create, whether that was through cooking, baking, gardening, or sewing, and then sharing what she made with her loved ones.
In retirement, she was able to rest. She travelled to many parts of the US, Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean, Hong Kong, China, and Vietnam. With her retired friends, she had a lot of fun swimming, singing karaoke, and line dancing. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids Lexi and Evan rolling spring rolls or picking apples in the backyard.
Lieng Thi Lam will be remembered for her perseverance, humour, and devotion to her family and loved ones. Her caring spirit will forever inspire all those who knew her.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to the compassionate care providers of Home Instead home care, and to the supportive staff of the Self and Family-Managed Care program and the Palliative Care program.
A funeral service followed by a luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 7th at 10:00 AM at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg.
