With a heavy heart and the fondest of memories we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nanna, sister, and friend. She will always be in our hearts and remembered by her three loving children; Tony (Marcella), Marisa (Mark), and Pasquale (Lisa); her grandchildren Derek, Tony, Dyson (Nancy), Paulina (Anthony), Isabella (Ryan), Kayla, Leah, and Giavanna. Her most recent loves, her three great-grandchildren AJ, Amare, and Noa. She also leaves to mourn her sisters Maria, Anna Maria (Pasqualino), Vittoria (Brian), Ada (Vince), and brother Pietro, as well as her brother-in-laws Giuseppe (Rita) and Raffaele. Mom also leaves behind her friends of over 50 years Vincenza (Giannino) and Maria (Mario), whom she always spoke of like they were family.
Mom is finally reunited with her loving husband, Bruno, who she has missed so dearly. Also, welcoming Mom are her parents Aurelio and Teresina, her sister Nina, her in laws, many brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s and cousin’s.
Mom was born in San Mango D’Quino, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1959, where she was joyfully reunited with her soon-to-be husband, Bruno. They married later that same year and enjoyed 57 wonderful years together, building a life and a family in Canada. While adapting to her new surroundings, Mom worked at Greb Shoes and Easy Living Fashions, making many friendships along the way.
As our family’s began to grow, Mom’s most prized possessions became her grandkids. There was nothing that could make her light up more than watching the girls grow. Mom was determined that the girls experience and enjoy her cooking, with pasta and espresso being staples from a very young age.
Naturally, 699 Oxford St. became the family gathering spot, spending many summer evenings on the front steps or in the back garden. We all knew that Mom was happiest when we were all around the table, reminding us of the enduring importance of family love.
As the years went by, Mom found great joy in the simpler things in life; the warmth of family, a competitive game of bingo at Simkin, and getting out for her Sunday routine at Winn City. She was so proud to witness Paulina and Bella get married over the past two years, and we are so fortunate she could be part of the celebrations. She loved and welcomed Anthony, Ryan, and Nancy into the family with open arms.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by all her family and many friends who were touched by her kindness and clever wit. She was everything to us and although there is a hole in our hearts, we know that she will forever be watching over us.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at Simkin Centre for making Mom’s last four years filled with happiness and joy. We will all miss Tuesday night Bingo!
Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, February 18 at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Parish Church, 510 River Avenue with Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu as the Celebrant. Viewing and condolences will begin at 10:00 am. Private family entombment will follow. Pallbearers will be Anthony Coombs, Ryan Best, Dyson Smith, PJ Manfredi, Phil Colosimo, and Carmine Puteri.
