Lorne was born in Steinbach on April 27, 1950. He started school in a one room school house and completed his grade 12 at Steinbach Collegiate. From there he moved to Winnipeg to attend Red River Community College earning a diploma in Business Administration which lead him to the start of his accounting career. He obtained an RIA then later a CMA and a CPA. One of his early jobs was with Monarch Industries in Winnipeg where he met Maryann. Just before marrying her in 1977, he changed jobs and began working with Manitoba Pool. In 1986 he changed jobs again and began working for the Province of Manitoba for the department of Northern Affairs in Thompson. His next career change took him to Morden in 1990 to work for Manitoba Health. His final career move brought him back to Winnipeg where he worked for Manitoba Health till his retirement in 2008.
He often volunteered for organizations such as Winnipeg Harvest, CancerCare and donated his accounting skills to many boards and organizations such as churches and community groups.
He really enjoyed spending time with his family. Many of his nights and weekends were filled with family events such as watching Cherylann play all sorts of sports, to taking Roxann to Girl Guides and Ivan to umping local baseball games. Extended family gatherings were also important to him. Taking his grandsons for hikes was one of his favorite things to do. It was never a weekend at the Thiessen’s without Lorne going into the shelter belt to pull out dead wood for fires.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with reception to follow.
As Lorne was an avid hiker and lover of geocaching, donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Trails Manitoba.
