Louise "Betty" Anderson Fenn

After a long and happy life, Louise Anderson (Betty) Fenn, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 102 on December 8, 2012 at Grace Hospital.

She was born on October 20, 1910 in Sherbrooke, Quebec to Howard B. and Amy Henrietta Miller.

She and her brother, Howard, were raised in Ottawa, Ontario by her mother and family following the death of her father in World War 1. Following her graduation from school, Betty worked in the Philatelic Department of the Post Office.

In 1938 she married William Edward Fenn, the love of her life, and they moved to Winnipeg, where Bill worked for the Department of Transport until his retirement in 1972.

Betty enjoyed being a mother and homemaker, raising her two daughters and filling her days with sewing, smocking, knitting, baking, canning as well as being a wonderful neighbour and friend. She later took up bowling, bridge and golf and loved spending time with her many friends.

She was a member of River Heights United Church and it’s Group 13 for many years. She also enjoyed Engineer’s Wives, I.O.D.E. and volunteered in the community in many different capacities.

Her warmth, kindness, generosity, compassion and understanding, yet never judging, always loving, are just a few of the qualities that those who knew her enjoyed. She was an inspiration and a true blessing to all of the lives she touched. She gave much time to the care of several members of her family while they were home and visited daily when they were later being cared for at Tuxedo Villa.

She will be remembered for many things, but one will have to be the hundreds of pairs of her special “loopy” mittens that she knit for family and friends over the years. They were the warmest mittens ever and she made them for both children and adults. She also crocheted a beautiful large tablecloth for each of her daughters. These were all displayed during a celebration party for her 100th birthday where she enjoyed seeing many old friends and neighbours.

Survivors include two daughters. Mary (Willis) McMillan of Naples, Florida, and Barbara (Russell) Ryan of Winnipeg; four grandchildren John (Caroline) McMillan of Scottsdale, Arizona, Sheryl Lambert of San Diego, California, Paul (Chantel) Ryan and Susan Ryan of Winnipeg; five great grandchildren, Axton, Madison and Krew Lambert and Ian and Benjamin McMillan. Also surviving is her sister-in-law Florence Miller of Ottawa, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Edward Fenn, her brother, Reverend Howard B. Miller and her sister-in-law, Gertrude E.Fenn.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, on Friday, December 14, 2012 at 10:00 am.
