It is with deep sadness that the family of Marnie Erb announce her passing on May 13, 2012.
She will be greatly missed by Lorne her husband of 50 years; son Bruce, his wife Cheryle and grandchildren Chad and Michelle; daughter Cindy, her husband Rodger Bestland and grandchildren Brent, Darren and Christine. Also left to mourn are her sister Eileen Grills; brother A. L. (Bud) Barkley and his wife Donna; sister-in-law Lorraine and her husband Claus Deligdisch; nephews and nieces Donnalynn Grills; Doug and Julia Barkley; Brian and Helen Barkley; Glen and Ruth Deligdisch; Judy and Dave Wastle; John and Elaine Deligdisch; and Laurie and Hal Schienke and many other relatives and friends.
Marnie was born December 15, 1937 in Morden, the second child of Andrew and Edith Barkley. After completing high school, she attended Teachers’ College and began her teaching career at Sanford in 1957. Marriage and family interrupted her chosen career for five years, but she obtained a position at Domain and later transferred to Sanford until her retirement in 2002. She was elected to the Red River Valley School Division Board in the fall of 2002, serving the last several years as Chair of the Board. As well as her 40 years of teaching, she was concerned about the welfare of every child and particularly those students who had a learning disability. She had a keen interest in sporting activities for herself, her family and grandchildren. There were some great experiences with the Manitoba Sunny Sams Travel Club, participating with Lorne at three Scouts Canada National Jamborees and three Scout bus trips to the Black Hills, some long distance travel with the RV, trips to Arizona to visit with friends, and several trips to follow grandchildren in hockey.
A Celebration of Marnie’s life will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 17th at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Avenue, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Mathematics Scholarship in memory of Marnie Erb, c/o Red River Valley School Division, Box 400, Morris, MB R0G 1K0 or to a charity of your choice.
