1929-2014
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Marie Duffy (nee Antoine) on Wednesday July 9, 2014 at the Grace General Hospital, at 84 years of age, in the presence of her loving family.
Marie is predeceased by husband Russell Sr., and her parents Jack & Linda (nee Tomkinson) Antoine. Having resided most recently on Sinawik Bay in the Kiwanis Courts, Marie lived all her life in the St. James/Assiniboia & Headingley areas. She was employed for many years by the Province of Manitoba in the payroll department. Retiring early to spend more time with her grandchildren, she also became an avid golfer, learned how to swim (despite a long time fear of the water) and was an active member of her St. James senior’s group. She also spent time knitting scarfs & gloves for charity and was a voracious reader & crossword puzzle solver. In her retirement years she traveled extensively, going on golf trips to the southern U.S., taking a number of cruises, a bus excursion up the Alaska Hwy, and visiting relatives in the U.K. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time at the casino (with frequent good luck) and the occasional bottle of Corinita.
She is survived by her son Russell Duffy Jr. (Wilhmien), her daughter Kathleen Hawrysh (Roy), her grandchildren – Hilary Bergen, Erica Svienson (Glenn), Alana Duffy (David Staerk), Ryan Bergen, Steven Duffy, as well as her step grandchildren David Hawrysh (Olivia & son Matthew Dobson) and Michael Hawrysh. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Morgana Svienson and Ariya Staerk, and her three siblings - Linda Sanders, Dorothy Catton (Bill), and Arthur Antoine, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Marie was a very generous & supportive mother & grandmother, and was dearly loved by all her family and will be missed terribly in our lives.
A graveside service to celebrate Marie’s life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday July 19, 2014 at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street. Reception to follow at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard.
Flowers are gratefully declined, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg MB R3L 0K6, or a charity of your choice.
