Surrounded by her children and grand-children, Marie Irene Fonseth passed away at Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre at the age of 92. Irene was predeceased by her husband (Ray), mother (Valeria), father (John) and sister (Helen). She is survived by her daughter Karen; her son Keith (Nikki) and her grandchildren Kendall and Cassie; Maricel who was like a granddaughter to her; and her niece Christine (and family).
Irene was born in Woodridge MB and later moved to Winnipeg, MB. The most cherished and purposeful part of her lifetime was being a mom at home for Karen and Keith and then the absolute joyfulness that came with being grandma to Kendall and Cassie. Irene had a love and passion for the country that included trips out to Woodridge and Teulon. She had a love that was absolute for creation that kept her gardening, working in the yard, blueberry picking in the peacefulness of the woods amongst nature. She would pick baskets of blueberries as we were in awe at the speed and precision of her abilities. When she wasn’t outside enjoying the bliss of nature with her children, she was inside making the household the warmest home environment possible. Cooking, baking, painting, laughing, entertaining, she was always doing something that she felt would make her family happier.
Irene also had a great love for animals. We forever had a stray or lost animal she had rescued in our home. Sometimes more than one. We were never quite sure what visitors in need may be in our home when we got home from school. Mom was always there nursing whoever needed her back to health. She had a deep warmth and tenderness for those that were vulnerable that she carried with her through her entire life.
In her later years in life, she cherished her time with her children, grandchildren and Maricel. We will always remember when one of us walked in your doorway mom how you would brighten up, smile that delightful smile and raise your arms for one of your wonderful hugs. Rest peacefully mommy.
The family would like to thank the Simkin Centre for the loving care of mom trying to always making her secure and comfortable. She loved the staff who became like extended family to all of us during these challenging times, particularly those last difficult days.
A memorial service will be announced.
In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor mom’s memory with a charitable gift are invited to make a contribution to the Saul & Claribel Simkin Centre, the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
Revelation 21:3, 4 We will see you in paradise.
