It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mario Alberto Rodriguez, who passed peacefully on January 13, 2026 with his loving family by his side.
Mario Jr. is survived by his wife Samara; his mother Dalila; his father Mario Sr.; and his brothers Carlos (Nakita) and Gerardo (Lori). He is also survived by his nephew Aaron and nieces Audrey and Ada as well as his extended family in Canada, the US and El Salvador.
Born in San Salvador, El Salvador, Mario always had a passion for learning and understanding how things worked. As a small child, Mario would take apart RC cars, their controllers, and nearly anything he could get his hands on. Mario enjoyed studying them and rebuilding them to work the way he wanted.
From a young age Mario also loved to read and could often be found reading science related books; this would continue throughout his life into adulthood. In El Salvador, as a teenager, Mario was introduced to computers, and it was here that he found his passion.
Mario graduated from the University of Manitoba with computer science degree while also taking various engineering courses. Mario worked at various IT-based firms over the course of his professional career. It was at one of these firms that he met his wife, Samara. Mario was known as a cybersecurity expert in the industry; and as such he concluded his professional career as a Security Officer for a well-known Winnipeg-based financial planning software company.
Mario enjoyed traveling whenever he had the opportunity. Whether it was a trip to California to visit family, a road trip across Canada or the US to see NIN, his favourite band, or a quick trip to Minneapolis just for fun, Mario was always up for a trip. Mario also enjoyed all different types of foods, whether it was going out to eat or making it himself at home, Mario was always willing to try something new.
Mario will be lovingly remembered by his large family and many friends for his unquenchable thirst for knowledge and ability to speak to just about any topic. Most of all, Mario will be remembered for being a loving and caring husband, son, brother and friend. He is and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held for his 50th birthday at 2:00pm on March 23, 2026 at Thomson "In The Park" Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba. His memorial page can be found at http://support.cancercarefdn.mb.ca/goto/MarioAlbertoRodriguez
