JULY 16, 1926 – SEPTEMBER 1, 2012
The world has lost a beautiful and kind soul with the passing of Alice Marjorie MacHutchon (nee Spence). Marjorie/Marj passed away peacefully at the Lion’s Personal Care Centre on September 1, 2012
Mom & Grandma will be deeply missed by her four sons and daughter-in-laws David (Cathy), Murray (Karen), Grant (Heather), and Neil (Allison), her grandchildren Chris (Rhonda), Matthew, Kim (Ben), Caitlin, Tyler (Cathy), Jennifer, Trevor, Ember, and her great-grandchildren Alex, Hannah, Quinn, Ashlyn, Ryan and Hayden. Mom & Grandma was a beautiful person inside and out. She was very loving, kind, and generous to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always available with babysitting, hugs, cookies, and big gentle smiles. The world lost a truly special person, but Mom & Grandma’s legacy lives on in her family.
Mom & Grandma was born in St. Boniface to Arthur and Alice (Marcil) Spence. Marjorie was the oldest child and will be lovingly remembered by her surviving siblings Marion (Bob), Don (Reggie), and Shirley (Roy). In 1951, Mom married the love of her life, William (Bill) MacHutchon, and was happily married to him until his untimely passing in June of 1976. After Bills death, Mom raised her four boys alone and was very proud of the men that they grew into. During this time, Marjorie worked at Wareham & Crowe Electrical Contractors as a bookkeeper. Mom & Grandma was a dedicated volunteer at the Guild of Victoria General Hospital and served as president for two years. She was also recognized with a lifetime Guild membership. Between working, raising four boys, and being a committed volunteer at the hospital, Mom still found time to come home and bake her famous cookies for her boys. Marjorie taught her family and modeled for them; love, compassion, fairness, graciousness, and happiness as the main measure of personal success. Later in her life, Marjorie volunteered at the Manitoba Society of Seniors, the Manitoba Theatre Centre, the Prairie Theatre Exchange, and the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre.
Marjorie’s family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the staff at Lion’s Personal Care Centre for the warm and compassionate care that she received during the last two and a half years of her life.
A remembrance service and celebration of Marjorie’s life was held at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, on Saturday, September 8th, at 10AM. In lieu of flowers , donations were asked to be made to the ‘Guild of Victoria General Hospital’ at 2340 Pembina Highway, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3T 2E8.
