She leaves behind to mourn her husband Bill; son Jim; daughter Laurie (Devin); grandchildren Dia, Khianna and Owen; brother George and family; sister Carol Ann (Reg) and family; brother-in-laws
John and family, Matt and family, and Eugene and family; sister-in-laws Olga and family, Elsie and family.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her parents Jim and Rose Robertson; in-laws Stephen and Margaret Fosty; brothers Gary and Richard; sister Lola May; brother-in-laws Mike and Maurice; sister-in laws Anne, Elsie and Stella; and many uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces.
During her life she enjoyed participating in and watching sports. She received numerous awards for her accomplishments in track and field. She loved to dance. Every Saturday night was a night to do that at the hall. It was there she met, at 18, the man she would come to marry, Bill, starting their journey in March 1960.
In 1961 she gave birth to a son Jim. In 1963, the family left Ontario to move back to Winnipeg, and in 1968 mom gave birth to her daughter, Laurie. Mom juggle raising us as well as working with Bill in his new company. She was jack of all trades, from bookkeeping to secretary.
Mom enjoyed evenings with family and friends playing cards. This often went on to the early hours. The trips that she and dad enjoyed over the years were a well-deserved holiday. Throughout the years mom participated in curling and bowling, in which she won many trophies and awards.
Her grandchildren were the light of her life. Whenever she spoke of them to others, she would beam. When leaving a visit or ending a phone call, she would do so with her favourite saying:
“I love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.”
We love and miss her so much….until we see each other again.
The family would like to thank Dr. Dawe and his team at CancerCare, their support and empathy was appreciated. Our thanks, also, to the Palliative Care team for the care and support; we appreciate it more than words can say.
