Passed away peacefully at the Poseidon Personal Care Home on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the age of 88. Mary leaves behind her children, Trudi (Jan) and Terry (Melanie); sister Leith (Nick); six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Mary was predeceased by Nelson, her loving husband of 67 years; daughter Karen, and son-in-law Adriaan; brother Harry Cryderman, and sisters Ruby Schell, and Mona Hayward.
Mary worked at home raising the family but was very active in organizing recreational activities such as card playing, bowling leagues, curling leagues and golf. She was a long time member of the Rossmere Ladies Curling league, and was a competitive curler competing in the annual Ladies Bonspiel and in the Provincial Senior Ladies Playdowns. She became President of the Manitoba Ladies Curling Association in 1979/80. She was also an avid golfer at the Rossmere Country Club.
Mary and Nelson became snowbirds after Nelson’s retirement and the two spent over 25 years travelling south to McAllen, Texas for the winter months. This included walking and golfing the Palm View Golf Course 3 days per week and becoming a course ranger. Mary achieved a hole in one on one of their many trips to Texas.
Mary was a very social person and made many friends wherever she went including winter Texans from all over North America, curlers, golfers, the residents of Baron Estates, Concordia Place, and later in the Poseidon Personal Care Home.
The service for Mary was held Wednesday, August 14, 2013, 10:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home.
A special thank you goes out to the staff of the Poseidon Personal Care Centre, and River East Home Care for their kindness, assistance and loving care of Mary.
