Maureen was predeceased by her husband and love of her life Ed Miller, her parents Jean and Bob Rankin, brother Bruce and sister Betty.
She is survived by her two children, Heather Miller and Cheryl-Ann Laycock and granddaughter Brandy Hurd. She is also survived by great grandchildren Graeme, Corrina and Ian Hurd.
Maureen led a life full of adventure and often showed great courage in stepping way outside of her comfort zone, with Ed by her side. She loved to travel and made friends everywhere she went. Of the many countries that she and Ed visited, Bali was their all-time favorite. However, home is where the heart is and spending time at the cottage in Lake of the Woods was her home away from home. Maureen’s travel experiences held her in good stead throughout her career as Director of Programs and Travel Services at Lions Manor and Lions Place. She was an avid reader and eloquent story teller, both verbally and by written word. Her many stories have kept our family’s history and memories alive, usually accompanied by a lot of laughter. Mom could find the faintest of silver linings in the darkest of clouds and make you laugh while doing so, a very special talent. We miss her great spirit, wisdom and warm hugs.
Our family would like to extend our thanks to the amazing staff at the palliative care unit in Riverview Health Centre for their warm and wonderful care. We can never repay you and will be forever grateful.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care unit at rhc.mb.ca/rhc-foundation/donate, or to a charity of your choice.
In keeping with Maureen’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. We will honor her memory at the family cottage at a later date.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
