With great sadness we mourn the death of our father and friend, Michael Hudson, on 11 March 2010, while in the devoted care of his son John. Michael was born in Winnipeg on 4 April 1927, son of Walter and Lorna Hudson. He attended Kelvin High School and went on to have many adventures as a young man. Mike’s life was defined in many ways by his love of animals and his skills as an expert horseman, and he made lifelong friends while working as an itinerant cowboy in southern Alberta. In 1951 he obtained his private pilot’s license and several years later qualified as a commercial pilot. He served as an instructor with the Winnipeg Flying Club for several years, and piloted floatplanes in northwestern Ontario and northern Manitoba. Eventually he settled again in Winnipeg where he trained as an air traffic controller. Mike eventually served as senior tower controller at Winnipeg International Airport and retired from Transport Canada after 25 years of distinguished service.
Mike was predeceased by his wife JoAnn in 2007. He leaves to mourn his passing his children Laurie, Nancy and John; his brother and sister in law Bill and Yvonne Hudson, as well as grandchildren Trevor, Leah, Shelby, Daniel and Alexandra. As we struggle with Mike’s absence we remember with love his company, his stories and his dry humor. We thank the nursing staff of Grace Hospital and Dr. Borrett for their compassionate care of Mike during his final illness.
A gathering in Michael's memory was held on Thursday March 18, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg Manitoba,
