It is with heavy hearts that the family of Milagros “Rose” Obcena announces her sudden passing of a heart attack at the age of 74 on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.
Rose is predeceased by her husband Ben, her parents Carmelito and Rufina Lanuza and her brothers Arturo and Edward Lanuza.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Hanah and Brandon, her sisters Helen (George), Nelly and Sally (Santiago), her brother Roy, her sister-in-law Ellen and her many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born on May 2, 1950, Rose graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in home economics in the Philippines. She was the first of her siblings to immigrate to Canada in 1974 and began working as a nanny. After two years she switched careers and became a health care aide where she worked at Oakview Place for over 35 years until retiring at the age of 65.
Rose enjoyed cooking, gardening and her TFC shows. She loved going to the casino (she called it “school”) with her best friends. Rose was always the life of the party with great stories and lots of laughter. Also, quite the fashionista loving to dress up for special occasions. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness and joyful spirit.
The family would like to thank the ER staff at the Grace Hospital for all their care of Rose in her final hours.
A heartfelt thank you to the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge especially the 2nd floor where she spent the last years of her life. Mila loved you guys and that gave us comfort knowing she was in good hands. Thank you all so much for your kindness and compassion.
Rose’s viewing and service will take place on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 6pm to midnight at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home,1291 McGillivray Blvd. Livestream of service is available by clicking on Join Livestream button below.
