Millie will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Terry Guidolin (Tommy) and Candace Heminger (Tim); and by her much loved grandchildren Jenna Guidolin, Ryan (Tracey) Heminger and Chad (Jessica) Heminger; and great grandsons Aidan Guidolin and Crosby, Nora and Milo Heminger, and Tenley Heminger
Millie was predeceased by her husband Stanley in 2009. She is survived by her sister Grace Aluf; several nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law Darlene Koenig.
Millie was born in Lethbridge, Alberta and was raised and educated in Calgary. She worked for several years in Calgary where she met her husband Stanley, who was in the R.C.A.F. They later married and travelled to Winnipeg, which became their permanent residence. Millie worked for many years at the University of Manitoba and then, for 20 years at Manitoba Hydro, where she retired from the Personnel and Services Department.
Millie had many hobbies and liked walking, bowling, cycling, gardening and travelling. She lived close enough to Manitoba Hydro, which enabled her to walk to work each day. She and Stan loved to travel and visited the eastern and western provinces, the Maritimes and the California and Oregon coastlines. They also vacationed in Jamaica many times.
Millie volunteered at Riverview Health Centre, at Fort Rouge Legion and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary serving on various committees. She thoroughly enjoyed the Joint Hospital Committee and visited many of our veterans at various hospitals, bringing goodies and playing Bingo. Millie was also a member of the Fort Rouge Leisure Centre and the Golden Rules Seniors. Millie also volunteered at South Osborne Place, where she lived for many years. She enjoyed her work in the Tuck Shop, the Library and with the Social Committee.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff at Poseidon Care Centre for their wonderful care and support.
Cremation has taken place. At Millie’s request, there will not be a funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald Street, Ste. 200, Winnipeg, R3L 0K6.
