Rev. Neville Wentworth Brereton Phills

He is predeceased by his daughter Christine, parents Isaac and Alda, brother Jim and sister Doreen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jacqueline, daughter Carol (Matt), son John, and daughter Kathy Anne (Dean), six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, his brothers Charles and George, and sisters Patricia and Gertie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Born November 5, 1923 at Prospect in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, he left St. Vincent at the age of 20 working hard to make his way to Canada at the refinery in Curacao, and taught at local schools. He immigrated to Canada and attended Toronto Bible College to continue his journey in service of the Lord, graduating from the University of Western Ontario and Knox College in 1957. He would later attend summer school for many years to earn his Masters of Divinity from Princeton University. Ordained with the Presbyterian Church in Canada, his first charge was Erskine Presbyterian church in Killarney MB from 1957 until 1961. From there he went on to become the founding minister for St. David’s Presbyterian Church in Winnipeg, starting the congregation in a small house in St. James. The church grew with the construction of St. David's Presbyterian Church on Ness Avenue in Winnipeg where Rev. Phills would continue to serve the congregation of St. David’s until his retirement .

Married to his loving wife Jaqueline in 1963 they moved to Winnipeg to begin their lives together and then went on to adopt their four children to start their journey of fond memories as a family.

We would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa as well as Deer Lodge Centre, for their care and support shown to our Dad over the last 6 months.

Service of Celebration of the Life of the Reverend Neville Phills and a declaration of faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Kildonan Community Church, 2373 Main St. Winnipeg, MB with interment to follow immediately after the service at Kildonan Presbyterian Cemetery.

Reverend Phills was very passionate about service and visitation with the elderly, sick and less fortunate and would always find a way to help anyone in need.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Siloam Mission.
