Left to cherish her memory are her loving children Bill (Karen), Robert (Cynthia), David (Eva), Lorie and Fred (Anna). Mom will be sadly missed by her nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, friends and neighbours in Winnipeg and at Sunset Beach.
Predeceased is by her infant daughter Denora Ann and her husband Dr. W. Norman Nash.
Paula was born and raised near Dauphin, Manitoba. She started working at Eaton’s in her late teens. Paula met her beloved Norm at a dance during WWII. Married in 1949 after a long courtship, they lived in Guelph while Dad studied at the Veterinary College, and then later raised their 5 children in St. Vital, Winnipeg. They enjoyed over 60 years of happiness together.
Paula was a formidable presence and has left her children and grandchildren with a legacy of images: delicious pie, devotion to family, tasty bannock, beautiful singing, lovely gardens, home canning, and fond memories of Sunset Beach. Who can forget seeing her at the lake in her tube tops yodeling at a moment’s notice!
Once her children were grown, Paula returned to Eaton’s part-time where, among other responsibilities, she played the role of Mrs. Claus at Christmas. Paula celebrated 50 years with the Eastern Star, sang in the church choir, and kept busy with many hobbies- collecting keepsakes, plates, buttons and writing journals, all the while ensuring that her family came first.
Every once in a while someone comes into our lives that we just know is unique. Paula was one of those people. Every room was a little brighter when people heard her sing.
Mom died knowing she was loved and cherished as our Mom and our friend.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomson “In the Park” Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard in Winnipeg.
Our family is grateful to all the staff of the St. Norbert Personal Care Home and to her son Fred who was a constant support.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
