Sept. 6, 1918-Aug. 7, 2011
Pearl Gagne, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully in her sleep after a lengthy illness.
She is survived by her brother Morley, her children Diane (Phil) Nakashima, Jeanine Joseph, Sue Reid, Bill, her step-sons Jack (Sandy), Ron (Joan), her grandchildren Tome, Lori, Leanora, Courtney, Brandon, Kaitlin, Chris, Kelly, Corey, her great-grandchildren David, Hannah, Daniel, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her husband Paul, siblings Etta, Kaye, Celia, Lottie, Jack.
Mom was a very smart woman who continued to develop and learn her entire life, from being top-of-the-class in her secretarial course, to becoming an aerobics instructor at age 65. Her strength and independence enabled her to persevere through the many trials she encountered in her life. The passing of Dad made it necessary for her to join the workforce and raise their young family alone. She quickly rose from the steno pool to executive secretary at Manitoba Health, paid off the mortgage, and managed to retire early, all the while being an excellent provider, and still having time and energy to volunteer for causes important to her family.
A brief graveside service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 11 a.m. at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Thomson "In the Park", Winnipeg, MB.
