My mother was born in Germany on July 13, 1921. She met and married my father, Friedrich (Fred) Seidl, there on August 3, 1949. I was born, an only child, on October 4, 1951. Our family immigrated to Canada with my father arriving in 1954 and my mother and I following in 1955. My parents lived in St. Adolphe, MB, for many years until my father's death in 1994 after which my mother moved to Silverview Estates in Winnipeg in early 1995. She lived there for 24 wonderful years before her deteriorating health led to a move to the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence in January 2019.
My mother was predeceased by my father, Friedrich Seidl, her parents, Paul and Franziska Vogel, and her brother, Heinz Vogel. She is survived by and will always be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Gabrielle, son-in-law, Bruce, step-grandsons, Jeffrey (Tammara) and Cameron (Taryn) and their mother, Sandra, Bruce's sister and brother, Rosemary and Mark. She will also be remembered by many friends in Winnipeg and in Germany. Her beloved cat, Simba, will also miss her.
My mother loved animals, especially dogs and cats. Our family rescued many lost cats over the years and it wasn't unusual for us to share our home with 4-5 cats at any given time. When it was time to move from her home in St. Adolphe, her main requirement was that she be able to move into an apartment in Winnipeg that would allow her to bring along the three cats she had then. Silverview Estates was a perfect choice. She made many friends there over the years and until her health issues slowed her down, she actively engaged in a lot of the activities there – bocce ball, bean bag, various social functions, weekly Bingo, shopping trips. My mother always loved gardening and her balcony was always beautifully decorated with flowering plants every summer. She also loved the Christmas season at which time her balcony and the entire apartment were decorated with the appropriate decor.
While my mother's stay at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence was short, she really enjoyed living there with Simba until she had to be hospitalized at the end of April of this year.
A very special thank you to everyone that has offered their love and support during this difficult time. Sincere thanks also to all of the caregivers that have helped my mother in recent years – Dr. W. Czarnecki, Dr S. Silagy, the WRHA Home Care and Palliative Care staff, the staff at Deer Lodge Centre 2 East, and the staff at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence.
In accordance with my mother's wishes, cremation has occurred and she will be placed beside my father in Waverley Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 13, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence, 905 Shaftesbury Boulevard, .
Should family and friends so wish, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way in Winnipeg, in my mother's memory.
“I will always love and miss you. You will always be in my thoughts and in my heart.”
