On March 22, 2026, Richard Alan King passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 85 after a brief illness. He will be remembered by his niece, Susan Jenkins (Mona) and his nephew Ross Jenkins, and brother-in-law Ray. He will also be remembered by friends from work who continued to get together regularly over coffee or a meal all these years of retirement. He loved a good conversation and could be seen in the front foyer of his building engaging with staff and his neighbours.
He was predeceased by his father Herbert King, his mother Vera King, and his sister Shirley Jenkins.
Uncle Al was born in 1940 in Winnipeg. His family had a long history of military service, and he joined the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. In 1957, at the age of 17, he embarked on a life defining far east voyage starting in Esquimalt on the HMS Crescent. The ship docked in Tokyo Japan, Hong Kong and Saigon Viet Nam, to name a few ports. He spoke of that time fondly.
Back in Canada, he spent his working years at CP Transport in the warehouse. He was an avid and good golfer. He went to the shooting gallery with his friend, Al and up until recently, he could be seen riding his bicycle in the summer months around Charleswood.
He was a history buff and stayed up on current events. His favourite teams were the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Green Bay Packers. He was also an avid reader. If you wish to make a donation in his name, Uncle Al donated regularly to the Canadian Red Cross and the War Amps of Canada. We will all miss you very much. Rest easy dear uncle.
