Rita Marie Yaremkiw

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Yaremkiw on March 6, 2024 at the age of 87 years at Riverview Health Care-Palliative Unit.

Left to cherish her memory are her Children; Randy, Michael (Shawna), Grandchildren; Andrew (Debbie), Nicolas (Jamie), Felicia (John), Great Grandchildren; Jett, Alexus, Madisin, Kaden, Keara, Oskar, Idin and Hadlie, Sister; Rose-Marie; Sister-in-law Gertie Lahaie and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Husband John Yaremkiw, Parent’s Christine and Honore Lahaie, Sister Florette Wark, Brother John Lahaie and Son Ricky Yaremkiw.

Rita was born in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba, and she later moved to Winnipeg with her family. Rita was the matriarch of the family and had the most amazing memory. She often shared stories of the past and would remember every detail. She cherished her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren the most and they brought the best out of her. She loved her sports especially, her curling and her Manitoba Teams. The Winnipeg Jet’s held a special place in her heart. Her son Mike often took her to the casino to watch the Jet’s on the big screen with the regulars. She loved her road trips that her son would take her on.

In her younger days Rita’s home was often filled with family, friends, and neighbor’s. She loved hosting Boxing Day dinners, birthdays, BBQ’s or any excuse that would bring us together. Grandma loved her ice cream, especially strawberry.

She did not have an easy life, waking up and losing her hearing one day, having vision loss due to glaucoma, heart issues and the list goes on. However, she was a fighter and that’s what she did. We will all miss her but hold our memories of her close to our hearts. We will also remember the smile she always had on her face. Love you always and see you again one day.

A Celebration of life will take place Tuesday, June 11th at 2:00 pm at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
