You will forever be in our hearts...

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Toews on November 15, 2019 at age 71. Ron is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Anne (nee Wittig) and his daughters Jennifer and Karen. He is also survived by his grandchildren Mya, Myles, Greta, Violet and Tess; his sisters Sharon and Lori (Jim); his brother Garry; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Margaret and his brother in law-in-law Ed. Ron was born in Steinbach on May 21, 1948. He spent his first years in Greenland, MB and then the family moved to Transcona when he was four. With the exception of a few years, he lived in the house he grew up in until his passing. As a young man, he was self-employed in construction. In 1981 he started working as a custodian for Transcona-Springfield School Division, finishing his career at Dugald School in 2003. He formed many lasting friendships during this time. In retirement he enjoyed wood carving, wine making and travelling with Anne in their Westfalia Van, covering Canada from coast to coast. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Ron’s family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at HSC ward GH4. A special thank you to Dr. Van Ameyde, Dr. Merkel and our favourite nurse, Elle. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Winnipeg Harvest, Siloam Mission or your preferred charity. A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Green Acres Funeral Home; 1 Green Acres Lane, Winnipeg.

Ron will be sorely missed. He was a friend, mentor, teacher, joker. The joy of having known him will eventually overcome the pain of losing him, but for now, it hurts. Thoughts and prayers for Anne, Jennifer, Karen, and the grandchildren he loved and was so proud of.

I was a former co-worker of Anne's and heard about her husband's passing from another former co-worker. Anne...I am so sorry for your loss. I remember the times you spoke about your family and your travels. Take care.
