It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, who was born on July 9, 1941, in Multan, pre-partition India, to Beant Singh and Dial Kaur. He was one of eight siblings, with five brothers—Late Ram Singh, Harnam Singh, Late Sada Singh, Late Ajit Singh, and Bakshish Singh—and three sisters—Late Parkash Kaur, Late Gian Kaur, and Late Gurdev Kaur.
He began his early schooling in Pakistan before his family relocated to Village Herian, District Hoshiarpur, Punjab, India following the partition in 1947. At a young age, he was married to Satnam Kaur of Village Salempur. Though married early, they began their life together a few years later and went on to share over 65 years of marriage built on love, strength, and partnership.
He completed his high school education and went on to earn a diploma in Arts and Crafts from the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Jalandhar between 1958 and 1962. He later obtained his Giani and trained as a Punjabi high school teacher in Anandpur Sahib.
At the age of 19, he pursued an opportunity to move to England in 1963, where he worked as a carpenter. Over time, he was joined by his father in 1965, followed by his wife in 1966, along with his mother and two younger brothers. In 1969, he and Satnam Kaur welcomed their eldest daughter, Manjit.
In 1972, after establishing his family in England, he moved to Winnipeg, Canada, where he contributed to the construction of the Winnipeg Convention Centre. His wife and daughter joined him shortly after that same year. Together, they built a life in Winnipeg and were blessed with two more children, son Amerdeep (Rajwinder) and daughter Gurdeep (Rajbir).
He worked with Brown & Rutherford and later retired from Display Fixtures. In Winnipeg, he and his family built a strong and loving community, forming lifelong friendships that became an extension of their family.
He was a proud grandfather to his four grandsons: Harjeevan, Arjan, Karm, and Sartaj.
A devoted Sikh, he dedicated his life to seva (selfless service). His craftsmanship and contributions can be seen throughout many gurdwaras across the city, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, service, and community.
He will be remembered for his strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family and values. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him.
A Funeral Service will be held at Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home and Cemetery, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., on March 19, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, with a live stream available at https://fweb.tv/249441.
